A Day of Yay

{photo: www.surfersvillage.com}

Big days and great days don’t always go hand in hand.  But today, they do.

A lot is happening this week.  Yesterday, I wrote about this being my last week of work and making the decision, after many years and countless conference calls, to stay at home with my kids.  So, in order to avoid the awkward sentimentality of goodbye workplace tears, I am procrastinating and packing up my office into boxes as you read this.  Hopefully, my fabulous brown heels will appear somewhere in the mess and make it home with me.  Along with my favorite pen — which magically makes my handwriting not resemble that of a serial killer.  Oh, and I need to find the Post It notes that say “You’re not the boss of me…Oh wait, yes you are.”

They can keep the rest.

And, at the risk of sounding like a Ginsu Knives infomercial…Wait, there’s more!

Today, in addition to packing in corporate life, I’m the Featured Blogger over at Theta Mom, which is a huge honor.

When I first started blogging about seven months ago, Theta Mom was one of the first sites I came across to find a fabulous cross-section of women writing about their lives.  It’s an amazing resource and community, and one where I continue to learn new tricks of the trade on a regular basis.  If you’ve never checked it out, please do – stat!

Heather, the Head Theta Mom, really tapped into something tremendously valuable and continues to evolve and build it every day.  I’m so grateful to her for the tools she has provided, and for featuring my blog today.  So, if you’re new here via Theta Mom, welcome!  And thanks so much for stopping by.

That’s a lot of excitement for one day.  You can see how it’s like my birthday and Christmas, all at once.  And maybe Arbor Day too, because that has always been underappreciated.

So grab a coffee, a cocktail, a fizzy water (maybe even with lemon) – pick your poison – and toast a Day of Yay over in Fordeville.

And if you have any extra packing tape, send it my way.

  1. Big Changes! What a better way to celebrate?

This past fall, I made the opposite change and went back to work full-time, out of the house, for the first time since giving birth to my son.

May the road ahead be filled with love, laughter, grins and giggles!

  2. Congrats on EVERYTHING mama! That is SOOOOO awesome! I hope to one day leave my 9-5 and work at home. I am very inspired by your story and look forward to reading more.

  3. Theta Mom says:

Girl, you are EXACTLY where I was a few years ago. I made the same decision and NEVER looked back. You are doing what’s right for you and your family and only YOU can decide that. Congrats on this new transition – it will bring you TONS of good blog fodder for sure. 😉

And thanks for the kind words about Theta Mom! I look forward to reading your blog as your new chapter begins.
    xoxo

Thank you, Heather! What a big day all around. Just fabulous.
And, yes, I imagine being at home is going to fuel a lot of new blog content. Stay tuned 🙂

  4. Bonnie says:

Hi, I’m visiting from TMC! Congratulations on being the featured blogger. What a lovely blog you have – I’m looking forward to looking around more!

  5. Barbara says:

Congrats on being the TMC feature today! I can’t wait to start exploring more of your blog!

  6. Congratulations, Kim! What an exciting double-whammy of a day for you! Soak it all in…and best wishes on finding those fab shoes and post-its. I’ll be back to check in on your progress for sure. 🙂

  7. Yay indeed! Congrats on being the featured TMC blogger! And on the big decision. I made the same decision shortly after my daughter was born. Being a stay at home mom was not something I ever envisioned for myself, but I have loved it. I hope you do, too. It is a major transition. You’ll have days you wonder what the heck you were thinking. But the time with your kids will be worth it. Enjoy, Mama!

Thank you Elizabeth! I’m sure I will have many moments of “What have I done?”
But at least you can give misbehaving toddlers a time out. Adult co-workers, not so much (I’ve tried).

  8. Congrats on being featured today! I also work in corp com (insurance here) and deal daily with the crazy balance of toddlers and work. Considering/hoping to leave the rat race in Sept. when #2 arrives, so I’ll be interested to see how you fare and compare.

    • fordeville says:

Thanks for stopping by! I will keep you posted on life from the other side. So far, so good 🙂

  9. Wow! A big day for you! I am a new follower but wanted to comment to wish you good luck on your decision to be a SAHM. I hope that I can do that as well when my Mat Leave is over. It interestingly brought tears to my eyes, for me it would be a very bitter sweet day. I love my work but would give anything to stay at home. Good luck to you! I look forward to continuing to read about your adventures. And congrats on being featured!
    Good luck finding your shoes.

    • fordeville says:

Thank you so much! I’m glad you stopped by. Going back after mat leave is so tough in many respects, and also great in others. Good luck — and enjoy the time off for now 🙂

  10. Congrats on your Theta Mom Day and on your last week of work! Well, I have to tell you there are many days I miss work terribly but I think I would miss my kids even more.

    • fordeville says:

Thanks for stopping by! I know I’ll miss work sometimes, but it helps that I just saw the agendas for a few hideous meetings I no longer have to attend next week.

  11. Pop says:

Wait…so you’re not giving away ginsu knives?

Congrats on being featured! And good luck with being a SAHM. My wife’s looking forward to her last day of work in a little over a year as well. Though it’s arguable that being at home w/ the kids is even tougher work since the “bosses” are so unreasonable and moody.

    • fordeville says:

Hm. Would it be untoward to do a Ginsu Knives giveaway on the blog? My wheels are turning…

And, yes, the at-home bosses are a bit unpredictable. But at least they nap.

  12. Congratulations on your feature day! Also, I think its great that you are going to be able to stay at home with your kids. Best of luck with the transition!

  13. Vi Nguyen says:
